The Shamrock Shuffle, a race expected to draw tens of thousands of runners to downtown Chicago, is experiencing an emergency re-route this morning because a man was threatening to jump from the State Street bridge and police closed off that part of the race's route.
According to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada, police received a call about 6:50 a.m. about a man threatening to jump into the river near 350 N. State Street. Police remained at the scene about 8:30 a.m., about the time the race was scheduled to start in Grant Park.
Shortly thereafter, the man was taken off the bridge safely, Estrada said, and was in an ambulance being evaluated by Chicago Fire Department personnel.
