Chicago Black Violence Continues to Climb - 5 wounded in South, West Side shootings

Five people, including a 16-year-old boy, were shot in three separate attacks on the South and West Sides this afternoon, officials said.
Just after 6 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the 1500 block of South Millard Avenue, and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, initially in serious-to-critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department's news office. The boy was being treated in good condition for a gunshot wound to the back, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss, who said he had no information on the circumstances of the shooting.
About 3 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the lower leg in the 3600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. No information on the circumstances were available from News Affairs as of 8 p.m.
