A Chicago infant has died four days after her father smothered her in an attempt to stop her crying in her family's West Ridge neighborhood home, officials said.
Angelina Rodriguez, who turned five months early last week, was declared dead at Lurie Children's Hospital at 3:36 p.m. Monday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Angelina was initially taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston from her family home in the 2500 block of West Fitch Avenue Friday morning, authorities said.
Rigoberto "Rico" Rodriguez, 29, and Angela Petrov, 21, Angelina's parents, were both initially charged with aggravated battery to a child younger than 13 years old resulting in permanent disability, according to court records.
