Weekend Tips: EB-5 Marketing 101 in China

Monday, 24 June 2013

(By Brian Su) I was hosting inbound Chinese emigration agents in Chincago over the weekend, and I have to post my Weekend Tips today. I was kindly reminded by an EB-5 regional center executive about Marketing 101, here are my thoughts on some very basics about EB-5 marketing 101 in Chinese investors market.

1) Learn from the highly experienced professionals who have done deals in Chinese market if you intend to raise capital from Chinese investors.

2) I often see resumes of EB-5 regional center executives with good track record in private equity business in the US, when you talk about raising funds in China, it is totally different marketplace and culture as well as mindset. Learn what Chinese emigration agents and investors care about, they do not care how much you have raised in the US, it is history, it is not EB-5.

3) Do not pretend you are a China expert even you may have a sister in law who is Chinese. The truth is that you have no clue about how Chinese people think. Hire someone who knows the Chinese emigration industry.

4) Do not tell everyone that you have the best project. No one belives it except your own team.

5) Create and provide project presentations that can satisfy investor concerns, with a solid and effective presentation you will not be wasting other people's time.

6) Spend money to make money! EB-5 money is not free and not very cheap. Treat it as a real business, investors are not sitting on bench to wait for your project.

With nearly 100 various EB-5 projects to be marketed in Chinese market, where and how do you rank yours?  To learn more about EB-5 marketing 101, join me at my exclusive
Accelerated EB-5 Capital Raising Workshop on July 25.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel & Supt. Garry McCarthy can NOT curb CHICAGO BLACK VIOLENCE - 1st summer weekend leaves 4 dead AND DOZENS SHOT & WOUNDED

Sunday, 23 June 2013

Four people were killed and dozens wounded in a spate of shootings during a muggy first weekend of summer.
Friday, the longest day of the year, was the deadliest, with three killed and at least 11 wounded in 10 separate shooting incidents throughout the city. Saturday saw at least six shootings, including one fatality. Ten people were wounded in at least eight shootings Sunday morning.
Those killed include a 31-year-old man who was recently freed after more than a year in jail and a 21-year-old man who had been in the country for only a few months.

Suspect shot in robbery attempt at Oak Brook mall - The black criminal is EVERYWHERE now!

One suspect was wounded and two others are on the run after a failed robbery attempt at the Oakbrook Center shopping mall.
"I was just coming down the escalator from Starbucks and there are all of these cops coming down with giant guns," said one mall customer.
When the 9-1-1 call first came in from Oakbrook Center just after 3:30 Sunday afternoon, police say the report was of an active shooter at the mall....as expected that prompted a large and immediate response. As it turns out the shooter was a jewelry store security guard trying to foil an attempted robbery by three individuals.
"One individual armed with a sledgehammer approached one of the counters and smashed it in. There was a confrontation between the individual with the sledgehammer and the security guard at which time he discharged his weapon," said Chief James Krueger.
The jewelry store is a branch of CD Peacock. Police say there were ten customers and six employees in the store at the time, but only one of the would-be robbers was injured. The other two escaped in what now appears to be an SUV stolen from the mall's parking lot. The whole incident was over in a matter of minutes, but the mall went on immediate alert.
"The mall activated its active shooter emergency plan where they ask customers to stay in the stores until there was an all-clear," Chief Krueger said.
"They didn't tell us anything. They just went and locked the doors on us," said shopper Jada Roscon.
Later both shoppers and store employees said, because no one really knew what was happening, there was confusion but no panic. "Management kept us all calm, telling us there was no danger where we were. It's scary seeing officers with guns going through the store, but we knew we were in good hands," said one mall worker.
The wounded man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. He has undergone surgery and is under police guard.
Oak Brook Police are reviewing video from the store and other areas around the shopping center.

A shooter kills a would-be robber in self-defense while waiting in line to buy LeBron James’ signature shoes

Greedy shoe companies making select sneakers needlessly exclusive paired together with welfare shithead black consumer exuberance, desperation, and American gun culture on Saturday long enough to cost one would-be alleged robber his life. Shoppers waiting in line to purchase the latest incarnation of LeBron James’ signature shoe outside Atlanta were being harassed by a reported pickpocket until one patron decided to pull a gun out and shoot the as-yet unidentified man in what is being considered a move motivated by self-defense.
Witnesses told one man in line outside Wish, a clothing and shoe store on Moreland Avenue, pulled out a gun and shot the would-be robber.
The shooter then got back in line, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Police have not charged anyone and for now consider the shooting to be self-defense. No additional information was being released Sunday morning, said Officer John Chafee, an Atlanta Police Department spokesman.
Only 22 pairs of the sneakers were available, but that didn’t stop nearly 50 shoppers from lining up hours before the store opened. The shooting took place at 5:30, five hours before Wish opened its doors to LeBron’s fans.
One witness says the deceased got what he deserved. From the Journal-Constitution:
“He [the shooter] really stood up for all of us,” said Taylor White, who told Channel 2 that he was in line when the shooting happened. “I salute the homie that did that.”
Here is a picture of the shoes, retailing at $180, which caused the line, the panic, and the incident:

NO MORE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION? PROFESSOR: Supreme Court Could Be On The Verge Of A Huge Ruling Declaring The Constitution Colorblind

Alexandria Suggs (L), a student at Wayne County Community College of Detroit, Michigan, wears a 'Don't Hate' sticker on her face as she attends a rally to defend affirmative action outside the U.S. Supreme Court April 1, 2003 in Washington, DC
The Supreme Court is taking an unusually long time to decide its big affirmative action case, suggesting it could be crafting a bold ruling to destroy race-based preferences.
In October, the court heard a challenge to the University of Texas at Austin's admissions policy, which accepts the top 10% of students from every high school in the state, while considering race and other factors for students who aren't in the top 10%.
Those arguments were 8 months ago. Supreme Court cases — even big ones like Obamacare and gay marriage — usually take 3 or 4 months to decide. The Supreme Court's term ends this week, and it still hasn't decided the UT case.
"You'd almost expect something unusual to have happened for this to take 8 months," UCLA law professor Adam Winkler tells us.
The case should be pretty simple. After all, the Supreme Court has ruled on affirmative action before. In a 2003 case involving the University of Michigan's law school, the high court said colleges can consider applicants' race to achieve a "critical mass" of minorities.
The Supreme Court could have used the reasoning from the 2003 ruling either to affirm UT's policy or to say it's going too far by considering race and using its 10% plan (which also makes the school more diverse). But that would have been a "copy and paste job" that probably wouldn't have taken so long, according to Winkler.
"One possibility is that instead of doing a copy job ... Maybe the conservatives have decided to go bold and make an assertive ruling," Winkler says. "That would occasion the liberals to have to write extensive dissenting opinions."
That would take a lot of time. "A bold ruling declaring the Constitution to be colorblind would be contrary to over a century of Supreme Court case law," Winkler says. "It would occasion a lot of writing, a lot of argument, a lot of back and forth."
Some legal experts have argued that colleges can still try to make their student bodies diverse even if the Supreme Court bans affirmative action.  Still, the implications could be huge if the court goes bold and says that government and entities that take government money (like universities) can't consider applicants' race, Winkler says.
Government contractors and agencies, for example, couldn't take explicit steps to make their workforces more racially diverse. Colleges would need to find entirely new and creative ways to ensure blacks and Hispanics were part of their student bodies (including by using socioeconomic status as a proxy for race).
Other experts have also predicted the Supreme Court will strike a blow to affirmative action. Supreme Court lawyer Carter Phillips has told BI the court will likely strike down UT's use of race because its 10% admissions plan already achieves diversity.
During oral arguments, conservative justices suggested they may "cast aside" the heart of the court's 2003 ruling that upheld affirmative action, veteran Supreme Court lawyer Lyle Denniston has written.
Of course, it's not a foregone conclusion that the court will dismantle affirmative action. But the long wait we've had makes it an increasingly likely possibility.

CHICAGO SUNTIMES - Tarnished Badges: They break the rules, commit crimes — but remain Chicago cops

Saturday, 22 June 2013

One of the officers, Daniel P. Sullivan, 41, pleaded guilty to breaking a black man’s right leg outside a bar in Lake Geneva, Wis., in a racially charged attack. He’s still patrolling the streets of Chicago.
The other, David Gonzalez, 38, wasn’t convicted of any crime. Still, he was fired after being found not guilty of attacking two Summit police officers responding to a bar fight in the southwest suburb.
