Report from China: Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues warning to EB-5 investors

Saturday, 9 March 2013

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China issued a risk warning notice to Chinese emigration intermediaries and investors who are interested in the US EB-5 regional center program.  The notice was issued by the Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 8, 2013.  The statement reminds Chinese citizens to be vigilant when considering investing in the US EB-5 immigrant investor program.  It calls for a better screening and due diligence on the investment project information provided by the relevant intermediaries, and pay attention to prevent fraud. Once deceived, investors should save the relevant evidence and report to the authority in a timely manner. Today's warning is so far the only offical response from Chinese Central Government to the recent SEC charges against an EB-5 regional center in Chicago, the case involves about 250 Chinese investors and over two dozens of Chinese emigration agents.
