A Kansas City teenager was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for the rape of an 84-year-old woman last year.
Tony L. Putman, 19, sexually assaulted the woman and punched her 93-year-old husband in the face inside their home in the 7300 block of Campbell Street in July.
He pleaded guilty in March. At Wednesday’s sentencing in Jackson County Circuit Court, Putman received additional sentences of 10 years in prison on charges of robbery and kidnapping.
The woman’s husband had been napping inside their home when an intruder assaulted him and restrained him with belts.
When the wife arrived home from running errands, the intruder bound her hands and took $400 she had just received from a bank.
He forced her into a bedroom and sexually assaulted her before escaping in the couple’s car. After they freed themselves, the victims called police.
Police arrested Putman a short time later after spotting the stolen car.
