According to preliminary reports, the man was stabbed in his stomach area and the stabbing was domestic-related, Purkiss said.
The man was taken in critical condition to Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, he said.

At about 5:55 p.m., two women were injured in a shooting in the West Pullman neighborhood, said News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
The shooting happened on the 700 block of West 117th Street and left a 22 year old and a 19 year old injured, Ursitti said.
One of the women was shot in the forearm and the other to her thigh. One of the women was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, while the other was in good condition at Roseland Hospital, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Joseph Roccasalva.
Police have opened a death investigation after a man was found dead on the 200 block of North LaSalle Street after apparently falling from the 16th floor of a building in a suspected suicide, officials said.
The man was in his 40s and officials are withholding his name pending notification of his family, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
