(Update: 3 murdered - 9 shot) Three people were killed and five others wounded in shootings on the South Side this afternoon and evening, authorities said.
The most recent slaying happened about 6:48 p.m. when a male victim was shot dead on the 7500 block of South Carpenter Street, according to Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. There was no information available immediately about the circumstances leading up to the attack, or about the age of the victim.
About 2:15 p.m., a man believed to be in his 30s was shot multiple times and killed in the 0-100 block of West 107th Street in the Fernwood neighborhood, police said. The man was on the street when someone walked up to him and shot him multiple times, police said.
Police had no detailed description of the shooter or what happened.
