Funeral held for unidentified African American newborn found inside cooler - The baby was nicknamed I.B. Kooler by those who found its body

Sharon Grill gasped as the tiny white casket was led into Our Lady of the Ridge Catholic Church this morning.
The Orland Park resident was one of about 150 people to attend the funeral service for an infant none of them knew.
“The baby deserves to be loved,” Grill said about the unidentified newborn found inside a cooler at a Chicago Ridge recycling plant this month. Authorities said their investigation into the death is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Members of a non-profit group stepped in to provide a funeral for the boy they named Jeremiah Michael. Services were held at the church in Chicago Ridge with burial in Alsip in a plot donated by the Chicago Archdiocese.
Police officers, firefighters and other attendees wiped away tears throughout the service. “We come together to mourn a person who didn't know anybody yet gathered us all here today,” said Fr. Wayne Svida, whose voice crackled several times as he fought back tears. “An infant taken before his time; an infant given back to God.”
