Cops: Man, 32, killed on his birthday by speeding teen driver who attempted to flee on foot after the accident
A man died on his 32nd birthday after he and two other people were struck by a speeding car as they crossed the street in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side, authorities said.
Eugene Ratcliff, of the 8200 block of South Dante Avenue, was one of three pedestrians struck by a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 8200 block of South Blackstone Avenue, officials said.

Ratcliff was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The 17-year-old driver of the Jetta had been driving southbound at a high rate of speed when he struck the three pedestrians and a 2012 Pontiac Sunfire traveling west on 83rd Street, Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
