17 puppies found abandoned near Indiana Dunes - Sheriff Tom Dart asks the Indiana Governor to call out the National Guard!

Tuesday 14 May 2013

Seventeen mixed lab puppies were found dumped along a road near the Indiana Dunes, but authorities say they are all healthy and plan to hold adoptions as early as this weekend.
"They're great little puppies," said Ashley Hill, dog coordinator for Lakeshore PAWS, a shelter in Valparaiso that is taking care of the dogs. "They're hilarious."
Karen Read told the Northwest Indiana Times that she was driving along State Park Road, just east of Indiana Highway 49 in Porter County Friday night when she spotted the puppies. "I saw a mother dog and countless puppies," she said.
Authorities said they are looking for the driver of a gold SUV that was seen speeding off as Read approached.
Hill said the puppies appear to be from two, maybe three litters. They range in age from 6 to 12 weeks old.
The shelter hopes to put the puppies up for adoption as soon as Saturday. Anyone interested must submit a survey available on the shelter's website. The puppies can be viewed from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday at Coco's Canine Cabana, 405 Elm St, Valparaiso.
"We're hoping to have everyone come by Saturday and pick a puppy," Hill said.
