Urszula Sakowska and Janice Ordidge were two young, vibrant Chicago women who should have had nothing to fear when they let the cable guy in their homes for separate appointments in 2006, prosecutors say.
Anthony Triplett, the man they let in on routine service calls, was well-spoken, friendly and clad in a T-shirt bearing his company’s logo. But Triplett turned out to be a monster, prosecutors said, sexually assaulting and then strangling the last breath out of the women before leaving their bodies in bathtubs as an ultimate show of “power and control.”
“As he strangles them, he looks them right in the eye and sees the light go out,” Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Sexton said Monday during closing arguments in Triplett’s trial at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
On Monday night, after about six hours of deliberation, a Cook County jury convicted Triplett of first-degree murder in the slaying of Sakowska, 23, at her Southwest Side home in December 2006. During the 10-day trial, jurors also heard evidence that Triplett killed Ordidge, 39, seven weeks earlier in her residence in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Triplett still faces trial for Ordidge’s death.
