Police are trying to learn what made a soft-spoken 29-year-old Texas man snap.
At a news conference Friday morning, one day after Carnell Marcus Moore opened fire at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport before taking his own life, police said they were searching computers that belonged to the man for clues that would help them understand the motivation behind his violent end.
“We have a couple of laptops out of the hotel room that he destroyed, or attempted to destroy—the hard drives are intact," Waters said. "So once we have been able to analyze all of that information, hopefully we’ll have a little bit more information as to his mindset."
The overt warning signs began approximately a month ago, when Moore—who had no prior criminal record and who friends described as “smart”—called his brother and confessed his desires to confront a police officer, possibly so as to be killed in the altercation.
The brother reported the conversation, police said.
"He didn’t use the words ‘suicide by police,’ but certainly that was the implication," Waters said.
