A sailor from Chicago working on a tall ship was shot dead over the weekend in the Bahamas, according to the man's family and media reports.
Kyle Bruner, 34, a former special education teacher, was apparently trying to help a woman being mugged by two armed men early Sunday when he was shot in the capital city of Nassau, his family said. Officials with the Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that an American citizen from Chicago had been killed, but didn’t release the victim’s name.
At his parents' Northwest Side home Sunday night, Rick and Ginny Bruner were finishing a somber Mother's Day dinner.
