CTA trains were stopped about half an hour on the Blue Line between the Damen and Racine stops after a man died on the tracks at the Lake Street station, officials said.
The man was later identified as Elmer Williams of the 1600 block of West LeMoyne Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Williams, 55, was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:50 a.m. after apparently being electrocuted on the third rail, officials said. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
Service was shut down in the Blue Line subway around 10 a.m. and bus shuttles were used between Damen and Racine, the CTA said. Trains resumed around 10:30 a.m. but the CTA said there were "significant, residual delays."
The body was discovered on grates near the tracks, police said. No other details were available. For more information go to the CTA Website.
