A Des Plaines man died after being shot by police after a chase Friday that began in southern Illinois and ended in Missouri, according to a published report.
Stltoday.com reports that Jose Garcia, 49, of northwest suburban Des Plaines, was shot in Eureka, a community southwest of St. Louis, after driving his car at police and pointing a gun at police officers.
Officials from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the St. Louis County Police Department, the Eureka Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and the St. Louis County Office of the Medical Examiner were not immediately available to answer further questions about the incident.
According to the Illinois State Police District 18 in Litchfield, the man was involved in a traffic stop in that district earlier in the day Friday. But no more information on the specifics of that stop will be available today, police said.
