There may be hope for the City of Chicago retirees and their health insurance coverage

Thursday 16 May 2013

Recently, the Illinois Appellate Court ruled against the City of Joliet who diminished retirement benefits to city employees who had retired.  Very similar to the state making you pay for health insurance after you're already retired.

Also they tried to reduce COLAs.  This is very good news for all of us.  It could still get appealed to the Illinois Supreme Court, but a good first step and possible indicator of things to come for State of Illinois employees/retirees.

The case was Michael Marconi, James Lukanicic, James Vancina and David Conner vs. The City of Joliet in the Third Appellate Court.  The opinion stated what the City of Joliet tried to do violated the Illinois Constitution and mandated all former retirement benefits be reinstated.
