The woman watches from behind large sunglasses, never taking her eyes off the store owner being distracted by two accomplices.
Within seconds, she reaches over and snatches a black case of loose diamonds, then steps behind a pillar and slips them into her purse. She continues walking through the store, appearing to check her phone.
Naperville police have released surveillance video of the woman as they ask for the public's help in tracking down her and two other people suspected of robbing the Precious Fine Jewelry store last week. Police say the three made off with as many as 20 diamonds worth about $180,000.
The robbery occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 26. Police say the three -- a man and two women -- entered the Precious Fine Jewelry store on Showplace Drive in Naperville, and two of them distracted the owner while the woman took the diamonds.
"They walked in separately to not indicate they were together," said Naperville Police Sgt. Lou Cammiso. "And they walked out in different directions. No car was seen."
Cammiso said one of the woman took the diamonds while the other woman asked the owner to see some jewelry and the man appeared to be browsing.
Police described the suspects as an Hispanic man, 20-25, about 5 feet tall and about 150 pounds. The women were described as also Hispanic, 20-25, slightly taller than the man and each weighing around 130 pounds.
