Authorities have charged a 20-year-old man in connection with a shooting Saturday morning that left a 21-year-old man dead and two people injured.
Vidal Martinez, of the 1300 block of South 58th Street in west suburban Cicero, is charged with one count of first degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm.
The charges stem from an early-morning shooting Saturday in the 3800 block of South Halsted Street, in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
Police said a gunman shot three people after an altercation at a party. One of the three, 21-year-old Monee resident Daniel Ortiz, died at the scene. Another one of the men shot, also 21, was critically injured.
Martinez also allegedly shot himself in the leg while in the car he fled in after the shooting. He also sustained a head injury when the car he was in crashed near 43rd and Wentworth Avenue as he tried to flee from police.
Martinez is scheduled to appear in bond court today.
