West Sider Joshua C. Hinton, 25, arrested after passing out at Taste with daughter, 1

Sunday 14 July 2013

A West Side man is accused of being so inebriated he passed out while accompanying his 1-year-old girl to the Taste of Chicago and tried to punch a police officer who was arresting him Saturday night, police said.
Joshua C. Hinton, 25, of the 1000 block of North Lawler Avenue, was charged with contributing to the neglect of a child and battery, both misdemeanors.
Officers were called to the 300 block of East Congress Parkway, the Taste of Chicago festival, where a little girl was found sitting next to Hinton, who had passed out about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a police report.
Hinton and his daughter, who was not harmed, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he began to fight with officers trying to get information from him, according to a police report.
In a "violent outburst," Hinton "became belligerent," grabbed a 38-year-old female police officer's right arm and took a swing at her that did not connect, the report said. Officers then placed him in a "wrist lock."
A nurse helping to restrain Hinton told officers that his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.290, the report said; that's more than three times the legal limit for driving of 0.08. He was admitted to the hospital for observation because of the level of his intoxication, the report said.
The child was released to her grandmother, the report said.
