WILMINGTON — The vigilance of a pair of officers, with perhaps some divine intervention, led to the arrest on Wednesday of a 19-year-old man accused of carjacking a priest in a Hilltop church’s parking lot earlier in the day.
Deiondre Travis, of the 100 block of N. Broom St., has been charged with first-degree robbery and possession of a weapon during a felony.
Travis is charged with pointing a gun at the Rev. Paul Williams, who was outside St. Paul’s Catholic Church at 1010 W. Fourth St., and demanding his car keys. Williams was not hurt, but police said Travis fled with the Franciscan’s 2010 Nissan Murano.
“I actually thought he was going to shoot me,” the 62-year-old said.
