Two teenage boys recently found a handgun on a playground at Seventh Avenue Elementary School in La Grange after black gang member throws it there

Thursday, 25 July 2013

Two teenage boys recently found a handgun on a playground at Seventh Avenue Elementary School in La Grange police said.
The boys discovered the unloaded 9 mm gun lying in mulch on July 18, according to La Grange Police Chief Mike Holub. Police traced the weapon to Rockford, where it had been reported stolen.
"If it was severe – suspected in a homicide or something, a lot more red flags would have gone up," Holub added.
chool District 105 noted in an alert on its website that classes were not in session when the handgun was found. The district said staff would search the grounds daily through the summer session for hazardous weapons.
Holub praised the boys, who are under 16, for their handling of the situation and for calling police to report the gun.
"I think they did the responsible thing by making sure they didn't lose track of it until police arrived," he said.
