On March 21, Sherry West was pushing her 13-month-old son, Antonio in his stroller on a morning walk in Brunswick, Ga. Only a few blocks away from the family's home her life was forever shattered...
Around 9 a.m., two teenagers approached West and attempted to rob her, according to police.
CNN reported:
"A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money, and I told him I didn't have any money. And he said, 'Give me your money or I'm going to kill you and I'm going to shoot your baby and kill your baby,' and I said, 'I don't have any money,' and 'Don't kill my baby.'"The pair fled and West crawled over to her son and began performing CPR on the infant.
The boy tried to grab her purse and opened fire when she said tried to tell him she had no money, West said, with the shot grazing her head. She said the boy then shot her in the leg.
West continued, "And then, all of a sudden, he walked over and he shot my baby in the face."
She was still trying to breathe life back into her baby when police arrived.
However, her son, who was shot at nearly point-blank range could not be revived.
Glynn County police offered a large cash reward for information leading to the capture of the shooters, and both suspects were in custody by the following day.
De'Marquise Elkins, 17, was charged with first-degree murder as well as eight other counts related to the slaying.
A14-year-old, who has not identified because of his age, has also been charged with first-degree murder as well as seven other counts.
The older suspect's mother, Karimah Elkins, and his sister, Sabrina Elkins, were both charged with evidence tampering, after they reportedly threw the murder weapon into a nearby pond.
Police recovered the revolver a few days later.
His aunt, Katrina Elkins, was also charged with making false statements to police.
While most of the major news outlets carried this story, within five days after the murder, coverage of the crime completely disappeared.
So, the same press that has seen fit to provide seemingly constant coverage to the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, primarily pushing the idea that George Zimmerman was motivated by race, and not self-defense, can only give five days worth of their attention to what is arguably the most horrific crime in recent memory?
Why?
It would seem that it is the press that has a problem with racial bias.
