Chicago Police empty Englewood auto lot after stolen vehicles found

Thursday 27 June 2013

Chicago police detectives are combing through records for more than 100 vehicles, construction equipment and parts that were towed from a West Englewood neighborhood to determine how much of it was stolen.

The lot, which police believe was used by a towing company, was cleared after tow trucks spent hours removing vehicles from the property in the 6400 block of South Bell Avenue.

So far at least 10 vehicles and other items have been confirmed stolen, according to police spokesman John Mirabelli.

One was a green 2003 Pontiac Grand Am that was reported stolen from a 20-year-old man on June 23. The victim told police he was at 74th and Halsted Streets at 4:45 a.m. when two people approached him and one pointed a handgun at him, demanding the car and the small amount of cash the man was carrying.

Police also found a tow truck that had been reported stolen from the south suburbs, and two trailers with light towers that are used for night-time construction work that were reported stolen several months ago, Mirabelli said.
