Chicago, IL— The U.S. post office is removing many mail boxes from the South Side area in Chicago because of underutilized mail according to a U.S. post office maintenance employee. What sparks controversy is the inconvenience to the elderly and physically challenged.  Another question raised is why is the South side being targeted? According to the post office employee he stated that the South Side of Chicago is being targeted specifically which is an outrage and discrimination. His advice was we should contact our alderman and congressman to complain about the inconvenience. In Little Village many elderly people and handicapped our homebound not in nursing homes or rehabilitation centers because of primarily their culture.

Joan Mikol (70) area resident is upset of the fact that the mail box located at 26th & South Kostner was utilized by her for the past forty years. Her worry is how can she send mail especially with her being physically challenged. Community activist Raul Montes, Jr. will contact the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to complain and ask for legal advice. Montes states it is imperative to restore these mail boxes to their original locations for the elderly, handicapped and general public. 26th street the “Second Magnificent Mile” is a major artery in Chicago which will be inconvenienced by this aim of discrimination. On Thursday morning, residents will ask the U.S. post master and local public officials to help restore the mail boxes to their original locations.
