His daughter State Rep. Deborah Mell is a carpet munching lesbian and his other daughter is Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich wife, Patti
Longtime Ald. Richard Mell finally made it official today, submitting his retirement letter effective July 24 following a nearly four-decade political career that saw him become the Chicago City Council’s second-longest-serving alderman and father-in-law to famously corrupt former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Mell, 74, has been toying with the idea of stepping down for several years and speculation has focused on his daughter, state Rep. Deborah Mell, being appointed to replace him in the long Chicago tradition of political nepotism.
“I think that my time has arrived for me to spend more time with the grandkids,” Mell told the Tribune today. Asked about his daughter as his replacement, Mell would only say “it’s up to the mayor.”
