Sunday 25 August 2013

Police are interviewing several persons of interest after two people were shot and a third person was hit by a vehicle Saturday night during a celebration at a park in Pembroke Township in Kankakee County, officials said.
A fight broke out during a "big gathering" about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park in the 12000 – 12100 block of East Central Street, according to Pembroke Fire Protection District Firefighter Demario Baines.
Gunfire erupted and two people were shot, according to Baines, who added a third person was hit by a vehicle.
"All we know is there were three people who were injured. Two had gunshot wounds and one was hit by a vehicle," Baines said.
The injured were taken to hospitals, according to Baines, who referred further inquiries to the fire chief, who was not immediately available.
Late Saturday, the Kankakee County Sheriff's police posted the following message on their Facebook page:
"Sheriff’s Police continue to investigate two people shot in the Pembroke area. Several subjects of interest are being interviewed by investigators. Medical condition of victims is unknown at this time."
An earlier post said sheriff's police had responded to multiple reports of shootings and disturbances in the Pembroke area.
Pembroke Township is about 50 miles south of Chicago.
