A man was fatally wounded this afternoon, steps away from his home on the South Side in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. on the 5100 block of South Winchester Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Dan O'Brien. Police responded to the scene and found a man shot in the head.
The man was identified as Rico Lawrence, 43, of the same address of where the shooting occurred, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Lawrence was pronounced dead at 1:42 p.m. at the scene.
As of 7:45 p.m., no one was in custody for the slaying. Area Central detectives were investigating.
