Milwaukee police shoot armed black man, 22, after north-side foot chase

Thursday, 1 August 2013

Milwaukee police shot a 22-year-old man early Thursday after a foot chase on the city's north side.
Officers responded at about 12:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 2400 block of N. 37th St. Police say when they saw the suspect walking around N. 40th and W. Meinecke streets, he ran.
About a block away, the foot chase ended when the man turned toward the officer chasing him and could be seen holding a gun, at which point the officer fired at and struck him, police said.
The suspect, an unnamed Milwaukee man with a lengthy arrest record dating to 2007 for weapons and drug charges, was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
The officer, 34 years old with seven years on the force, has been placed on administrative duty while the police department and the Milwaukee County district attorney investigate the incident.
