Double D's Idiots - Tom Dart & LiL Dick Durbin - Durbin, Dart press more police use of gun tracing system

Monday 22 July 2013

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said Monday he will introduce legislation to encourage more police departments to use a federal system to track firearms used in crimes, while Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart blamed "incompetence" and "stupidity" for those agencies that fail to take advantage of it.
Durbin, a Democrat and the state's senior senator, said that despite repeated encouragement, only 392 of the approximately 800 law enforcement agencies in Illinois are using the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' computerized gun-tracing center to track how guns got into criminals' hands.
Under Durbin's plan, the ability of law enforcement to access millions of dollars in federal Justice Department grants under the Community Oriented Policing Services program would be prioritized to those agencies that do firearms tracing through the ATF system.
