Tuesday 11 June 2013

Evanston police this afternoon were still searching for a man armed with a box cutter who tried to rob a motorist shortly after he dropped his son off at Evanston Township High School earlier in the morning.
Police said the Evanston resident, 54, was driving home at about 7: 50 a.m. when he was confronted by a man who blocked the intersection of Davis Street and Darrow Avenue. The man reached through the driver’s side window, grabbed the steering wheel and gear shift, displayed what appeared to be a box cutter type knife and demanded the victim’s money.
"We believe the incident's fairly isolated," said Police Commander Jay Parrott. "We haven't had any other incidents like this in the past."
The victim was cut by the offender on the left arm, right hand and head after which the attacker fled on foot. He was unsuccessful in getting money from the driver, said police. They said the driver was taken to Evanston North Shore University Hospital for treatment was listed in good condition.
"We did locate several witnesses in the area which we feel is going to be very helpful in the investigation," Parrott said. "We also recovered what we believe is the sweatshirt that the offender was wearing at the time of the attempted robbery."
