DRIVING WHILE BLACK - Derek Thomas, 48, fatally injured as he crashed his speeding out of control car into a house - The house will be fine, thank the lord!

A man who died when the car he was driving crashed into a home on the South Side this morning has been identified, officials said.

Derek Thomas, 48, of the 9000 block of South Dante Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:34 a.m. on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Emergency crews were called to the first block of East 87th Street about 5:15 a.m. after a white BMW smashed into a home, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
