CHICAGO (MURDER CITY) One man was killed and at least 21 other people — including a 6-year-old boy — were hurt in gun violence across the city since Friday night.
The weekend’s fatal shooting happened about a block away from the Chicago Police Department’s headquarters on the South Side early Saturday.
Willie Clark, 32, was shot about 12:45 a.m. while standing with a group of people behind a building in the 3600 block of South Michigan, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
A male shooter approached and opened fire, leaving the man with a gunshot wound to the armpit, police said.
Clark, of the 2100 block of East 97th, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:25 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
A separate shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood left a 6-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, police said.
The boy was riding in a car with his mother about 11:30 p.m. Friday night in the 4200 block of West Wilcox when the shots were fired, police said. The child was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known.
Twenty other people have been shot since Friday night. Most recently, a male, whose age was not immediately known, was shot in the foot and back in the 2700 block of South Kedvale, police said. He was shot about 6:20 a.m. Sunday and was treated at Mount Sinai Hospital, but his condition was not known Sunday morning.
