Chicago, IL - The “conceal carry” deadline in Illinois is coming up very shortly which
precipitates feedback and protest from people in the Chicago area. Illinois
lawmakers are expected to head back to Springfield this week to review Illinois
governor Pat Quinn’s changes he made on the bill this past week. Many people
are skeptical about conceal carry for many reasons for example tragedies like
the “Sandy Hook elementary” incident. Little Village resident Martha Zavala states
“Having “conceal carry” is combating violence with violence”.
Resident
and business owner Gustavo Rubio says “What about road rage when people cannot
control themselves and resort to a gun out of anger”. Illinois is expected to
have at least 300,000 plus applying for permits and the state cannot afford thorough
background checks. According to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says, State
police will do the baseline background checks, but local jurisdictions can do
deeper checks.” Community activist Raul Montes, Jr. mentions “48 hours a ago Seattle
police arrested a man from Nevada near the
University of Washington in a stolen pickup truck filled with weapons, body
armor and suspected explosive devices. One must understand the sociological aspects of people, demographics and different communities throughout the state.
Even though it is predicted that the General Assembly will override the
Governor’s change in elements in the bill the general public would like to express
their great concerns and the ramifications of “conceal carry” in Illinois. Many
are ambiguous about the new bill and how it could be more conducive to crime
and violence in the City of Chicago.
