Officials: Chicago Police officer shoots armed black suspect who fired at police

Wednesday, 26 June 2013

A Chicago police officer shot and injured a gunman who had fired at police early this morning in the South Side's Brainerd neighborhood, authorities said.
About 12:10 a.m., officers heard shots fired near the 9100 block of South Marshfield Avenue and saw someone running from the scene, according to a preliminary statement from the Chicago Police Department.
The officers gave chase, and during the course of a foot pursuit, one of the runners fired shots at a police officer, said Pat Camden, spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police union.
The officer returned fire, and when the runner pointed his gun at another officer, that officer fired shots as well, the union spokesman said.
