The family of a University of Chicago student who disappeared June 12 and whose body was found in Lake Michigan Wednesday said this morning that they believe Austin Hudson-Lapore died in a tragic accident related to his love of weather watching.
"This has been an indescribably difficult time for our family," Hudson-Lapore's aunt Leigh LaPore Harris said at a morning press conference outside of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on the University of Chicago campus. "What we see so far suggests that this was a tragic accident. Austin loved watching the weather. A stormy night on the lake front with some free time after the end of his finals would have been hard for him to resist. It looks like he just went a little too far out on the rocks and he slipped and was caught in a wave."
