An illegal Mexican pushed a 24-year-old woman to the ground in the Mayfair neighborhood on the Northwest Side and sexually assaulted her Monday, police said.

The man, believed to be 20 to 25 years old, approached the woman from behind as she walked down the sidewalk in the 4500 block of West Agatite Avenue around 9:55 p.m. Monday, police said.

The man grabbed her neck and pushed her to the ground, then tried to remove her clothes, according to police. The woman screamed, and the attacker struck her in the face and ran off, police said.

The woman ran to the 4600 block of West Montrose Avenue and was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital for lacerations to the face and knee.

Police are searching for the attacker, described as Hispanic, about 5-feet-9 inches to 5-feet-10, 130 to 150 pounds, with black hair. He was last seen wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt, police said.

Police do not believe the attack was related to one Sunday morning in the Albany Park neighborhood, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
