Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is back in federal prison in Milan after knee surgery — a procedure that has him worried about how he will fare behind bars.
Kilpatrick, who underwent surgery Wednesday, has said in court documents that he fears getting hurt in prison due to his knee injury, and that his “inability to move at the facility leaves him vulnerable to attack from others.”
That is one of the arguments he had made in asking to be released on bond while he awaits sentencing in the public corruption case that ended with him and codefendant Bobby Ferguson getting convicted of multiple crimes.
Kilpatrick, who has been behind bars since his March 11 conviction, got a two-day break from prison for his surgery. He left prison on Tuesday and returned on Thursday.
