Human leg found at Lake Michigan on Chicago's South Side

A human leg was discovered this afternoon lying on the rocks of Lake Michigan on the South Side in the Kenwood neighborhood, officials  said.

About 2:42 p.m., police were alerted to the 4700 block of Lake Shore Drive for human remains that had been found, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

The remains were a leg that had been cut off at the hip, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police are conducting a death investigation.
