Kankakee County Sheriff's Officer Timothy Swanson Resigns, he was recently appointed as the Police Chief of Momence, IL - following a Grand Jury Investigation

Wednesday 25 September 2013

A police chief who once ran an areawide police helicopter program has resigned from his latest job after a federal grand jury raised questions about the program, according to his former employer.
Timothy Swanson resigned Friday from the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office, said Chief Deputy Ken McCabe. The sheriff had assigned Swanson to be the chief of Momence, Ill., a job that now becomes vacant.
Swanson's resignation came 11 months after the Tribune reported that he had been the subject of investigations over a now-defunct police helicopter program he began in 2005 as chief of Countryside.
The article reported that Swanson teamed up with a convicted felon to run the program and start side businesses — one of which received grant money controlled by Swanson.
In May, Swanson filed a libel suit against Countryside, the Tribune and reporter Joe Mahr. Swanson alleged that the 2012 article contained false statements, including that Swanson was under investigation over the helicopter program.
