Firefighters were called to the Cap Sauers Holdings Nature Preserve near Ford and Wolf roads around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, according to Cook County sheriff's spokesman Ben Breit.
Crews found a Chrysler PT Cruiser engulfed in flames, Breit said. After putting out the fire, officials discovered the two bodies inside the car, he said. One woman was in her 70s and the other in her 50s, Breit said. Their names were not released.
Investigators searched the area with dogs and a helicopter, he said.
Autopsies on Sunday determined that both women had been strangled and their deaths have been ruled homicides, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Officials said the car was taken to the medical examiner's office along with the bodies.

Sheriff Tom Dart's Investigation:
A mother and daughter from Chicago were found strangled in the trunk of a burning car Saturday night in a Palos Park forest preserve, authorities said.
The charred bodies were found about 11:45 p.m. Saturday in the trunk of a Chrysler PT Cruiser in the Cap Sauers Holdings Nature Preserve in the 11600 block of Ford Road in Palos Park, authorities said.
Cook County Sheriff’s police spokesman Benjamin Breit said the victims have been identified as a woman in her 70s and her daughter, who was in her 50s.
"The sheriff’s office is investigating the deaths, although there was not enough information available Sunday morning to say whether the incident was a homicide, Breit said."
