A maintenance worker was killed when a flash flood sent rainwater pouring into the sewer he was working in on the Northwest Side, authorities said.
Emergency crews rushed to the 3000 block of North Rockwell Street about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after a passing police officer called in a frantic scene around the opening to a sewer, police said.
Contractors had been performing maintenance inside the sewer when a surge of water swept one of them from view, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
