A Naperville man is facing charges after police clocked him driving his white Dodge Charger at 124 mph, the fastest they can recall any speeder going, authorities say.
An officer running radar on Plainfield-Naperville Road on the city's south side recorded the Charger with neon blue lights going 103 mph in a 45 mph zone about 2 a.m. on Saturday, according to Sgt. Lou Cammiso.
The officer was unable to catch up with the car as it drove through a neighborhood, so he returned to his original location. Shortly afterward, the car passed the officer again, this time at124 mph, Cammiso said.
Police recognized the vehicle as belonging to Konnor Burns, 24, of the 1000 block of Sheringham Drive, because they had had contact with him several times in the past, according to Cammiso.
The officer drove to Burns' home and saw him walking into the house. Burns' father, William Burns, 60, answered the door and insisted to police he was the one driving. However, Cammiso said the elder Burns appeared to have been sleeping.
