A former Plainfield high school teacher accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student in 2011 negotiated a deal and pleaded guilty to lesser charges last week, her attorney and a Will County state’s attorney’s spokesman said.
Ashley Blumenshine, 29, a former gym teacher at Plainfield North High School, initially faced criminal sex abuse charges after she was found in a car behind a department store with the boy.
On Friday, she pleaded to a lesser felony charge of traveling to meet a minor with sexual intent, state’s attorney’s office spokesman Charles Pelkie said.
Blumenshine received two years probation and 30 days in jail but will receive credit for time served, Pelkie said, meaning she would be released May 3. She will also be placed on the Illinois sexual offenders registry for a decade, he said.
