Report from China: Chinese investors turn to direct EB-5 projects

Thursday 25 April 2013

As USCIS is so slow with I-526 approvals, Chinese investors are increasingly feeling uncertain in choosing EB-5 regional center projects, many investors have turned to direct EB-5 projects for answers. It is reported that I-526 petitions only take about five months to get USCIS approval. Direct EB-5 projects typically involve small businesses and franchises with labor intensive needs such as restaurants, fast food chains, medical clinics, retail stores, night clubs, etc. Each project offering may only subscribe two or five EB-5 investors. The project can usually meet the federal job creation requirements through direct employments. Direct EB-5 projects can be located in city centers, targeted employment areas (TEA), or rural areas.
