CHICAGO — Two black males suspected of robbing a North Side liquor store are in custody after allegedly shooting at an off-duty Chicago Police sergeant who was following them.
Shots were fired at an off-duty sergeant in the 4600 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue about 11:30 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
At the time of the shooting, the sergeant was driving his personal vehicle while following the two males suspected of robbing a liquor store, located in the 4800 block of West Foster Avenue, Greer said.
He was not hit and did not return fire, she said.
Greer said the suspects fled onto an expressway and were later taken into custody by Illinois State Police and North Chicago police.
State troopers spotted the vehicle, chased it and took two males into custody in the 900 block of Broadway Avenue in North Chicago, according to Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Jason LoCoco.
